Downloading
and Installing the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and then Offline
The Offline application is available to Standard edition Users (with Offline privileges) for a separate fee, and to Extended edition Users (with Offline privileges) at no extra cost.
Today's salesperson needs to do business regardless of location. The Offline application allows you to manage Accounts, Contacts, Deals (including Deal Steps), Appointments, Tasks, and Multi-Notes, to which you have access, from a workstation without an Internet connection. You can do this by subscribing to the data (records) in the Online application, pulling that data into the Offline application, and interacting with your records just as you do in the Online application. The Offline application mimics the look, feel, and management of your Accounts, Contacts, Deals, and Calendar, with the tabs, drop-down menus, windows, Company-Defined Terms, and layouts that you're used to. When you're done with your work in an offline environment, connect to the Online application and send your changes, thus refreshing the data in the Online application with the changes you made in Offline. User authentication upon any data refresh is done under 128-bit SSL encryption.
You get to select the records that you want to take on the road. Unlike other applications, the Offline application doesn't assume which records you need or limit the number of records you can take. By selecting specific records, you save time that is otherwise wasted with transferring unwanted data. You can pull records into the Offline application in a variety of ways: you can tag them individually, subscribe to a pool of records generated by a report, build reports that run automatically every time you refresh the Offline application (Just-in-Time Subscribing), or use a combination of all three. And all of your offline data resides on your workstation in a password-protected database to maximize application performance and data integrity (see the Help topic "Offline: Subscribing and Refreshing Data" for more information). Use the Offline application anywhere that you have a slow Internet connection (at home, perhaps even at the office) or no Internet connection at all (on a plane, at sea, anywhere).
The Offline application supports all international date formats. Dates are displayed in the Offline application according to your workstation's regional settings. For example, if your regional settings are set to "English (United States)", an Appointment on March 25, 2007 displays a Start Date of "03/25/2007". If your regional settings are set to "French (France)", an Appointment on March 25, 2007 displays a Start Date of "25/03/2007".
Before installing the Offline application, review the system requirements below to make sure your hardware, software, and settings are compatible with the application. Offline also requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 be installed on your workstation (the installation instructions are in this Help topic).
The client-side (your workstation) system requirements for the Offline application are as follows:
Hardware: A non-Macintosh workstation with a Pentium 166-MHz processor or above. You cannot download and install the Offline application if these hardware requirements are unmet.
Installation-only requirement: You must have administrator rights to your Windows workstation (not the same as being an Application Administrator) to install the .NET Framework 1.1 and the Offline application. You do not of course need administrator rights to your Windows workstation to use the Offline application. If you are unsure about whether you have administrator rights to your workstation, ask your organization's network administrator or IT department.
Operating System: Windows 98, Windows 2000 Professional (we recommend service pack 3), Windows NT Workstation 4.0 (with service pack 6a), Windows ME, Windows XP with service pack 1 (XPSP1), Windows XP with service pack 2 (XPSP2), or Windows Vista (use the newest Offline setup package). The Offline application is not compatible with Mac OS, UNIX, or Linux.
Hard Disk Space: You need approximately 116 MB of free disk space on your hard drive to use the Offline application. This includes the space needed by the Microsoft Development Environment (MSDE) (which is installed automatically by the Offline application), Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (it's free -- install instructions in this Help topic), and of course the Offline application and database. Without enough disk space on your workstation, you cannot download, install, and / or run the Offline application.
Memory (RAM): 64 MB RAM minimum (we recommend 96 MB RAM or higher). Without enough memory, you cannot use the Offline application.
Browser: Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher is required to download and install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.
Offline application: Available for download.
Required Software: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (we recommend service pack 2). Think of the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 as a free service-pack upgrade to your existing operating system. You can download the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installation program via the Setup menu in the Online application.
Software incompatibility -- Modem Boost: The Offline application is not compatible with Modem Boost software, which may prevent you from refreshing data. If you encounter problems refreshing data and you are running Modem Boost, try uninstalling Modem Boost and refreshing the data again.
If your workstation does not meet the Offline application's client-side system requirements, contact your IT department.
To download and install the Offline application, you must first install Microsoft's .NET framework 1.1. Then you can install the Offline application. You can install both the .NET Framework 1.1 and the Offline application by downloading them directly from the Online application.
Important You must be logged in on your Windows workstation as an administrator to install the .NET Framework 1.1 and the Offline application. If you are unsure about whether you have administrator rights to your workstation, contact your organization's network administrator or IT department.
To download and install the .NET Framework 1.1 and the Offline application from the Online application: Login to the Online application with the Windows workstation (such as your laptop) which you'll be using in an offline environment. Click the Setup icon on the navigation bar to launch the Setup menu. Click the Offline Downloads/Installation hyperlink. This launches a web page with instructions. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install.
If your operating system is Windows XP with service pack 2, you must reboot your workstation after installing the Offline application.
To uninstall the Offline application:
Click the Windows [Start] button to launch the Start menu. Choose Settings, then Control Panel. This launches the Control Panel window.
Control Panel window: Double-click Add/Remove Programs. This launches the Add/Remove Programs window.
Add/Remove Programs window: Select Offline, and click Change/Remove. This launches the InstallShield Wizard window.
InstallShield Wizard window: Select the "Remove" radio button and click [Next]. Follow the on-screen wizard's instructions in the subsequent windows to complete the uninstall.
Restart your workstation: When the uninstall is finished, restart your workstation. Log in as a user with administrator rights to your workstation, but not as a general user lacking administrator rights. If you log in as the latter after restarting your workstation, the uninstall will fail.
We do not recommend uninstalling the .NET Framework -- other applications on your workstation may need the .NET Framework files. If you still want to uninstall the .NET Framework, contact your organization's network administrator.
After logging in to the Offline application,
if you need help, click the context-sensitive Help icons ( ) located in most areas of the application, OR click the
Help icon located on the navigation
bar.
Navigating Offline Help - When you are viewing a topic, you can navigate back to the previous topic by clicking [Back] in the help viewer.
Index - Each indexed item is hyperlinked to launch a topic's page. To find the exact location of the indexed item, click anywhere at the top of the topic page and then press Ctrl + F to launch the Find pop-up. Type the item's name and click [Find Next].
Search Engine - Click the Search tab > type the word or words in the text box > press Enter or click [List Topics]. The topics display alphabetically by title. Double-click the appropriate topic. All occurrences of your search term in that topic are highlighted.
Rules for using the Search Engine:
a.) Searching words: Searching for a word will also search for that word's grammatical variations. For example, searching for the word "select" will also retrieve topics that contain the word "selecting".
b.) Partial words: Single letters (e.g., a, b, c) and partial words are not searchable. You will also not be allowed to search on just the words an, and, as, at, be, but, by, do, for, from, have, he, in, it, not, of, on, or, she, that, the, there, they, this, to, we, which, with, you.
c.) Multiple words: If you search for multiple words concurrently, the search engine only retrieves topics that contain all words in the search. The words do not have to appear in the order you typed them in, they just have to appear somewhere in the topic. To search for the exact phrase, group the words in quotation marks. See the section "Exact phrase search" below in this Help topic.
d.) Case sensitivity: Searches are case insensitive.
e.) Punctuation elements: Periods, colons, semicolons, commas, and hyphens are ignored.
f.) Boolean operators: You can use Boolean operators as part of your search. Boolean operators include AND, OR, NOT, and NEAR. For example, to search for topics that include the word "Norton" but do not include "Scantastic", enter the following search: Norton not Scantastic. (Note that the Boolean operators do not have to be in all caps. Also note that you cannot search on the words "and", "or", "not", and "near".)
g.) Exact phrase search: To use exact phrase searching, enclose your search phrase in quotation marks, e.g., "Offline application". Note that using quotation marks will return topics that contain the exact phrase OR topics that contain grammatical variations on the exact phrase. If a topic is returned by a search in Offline Help and none of the words in the topic are highlighted, it means that topic was retrieved because the search found a grammatical variation of your exact phrase.
h.) Wildcards: When searching Offline Help, you have the option of using the following wildcards (with some important exceptions noted):
* (asterisk): The asterisk can represent any number of characters (zero or more). For example if you enter the text "subscrib*" the application will retrieve any topic that includes the text "subscribe", "subscription", and so on.
? (question mark): The question mark can represent any one character. For example, if you enter the text "90?10", the application will retrieve any topic that includes the text "90210", "90310", and so on.
space: A space is not a wildcard. Spaces in the middle of the data (i.e., not at the beginning or the end) are interpreted as an "AND" Boolean operator. Spaces at the beginning (e.g., " a") or the end (e.g., "a ") are ignored.
Clicking the Contents/Index/Search tabs - The Table of Contents panel and the Index panel take a maximum of five seconds to load. Be sure you let the Table of Contents or Index panel load completely before clicking another tab or a JavaScript pop-up error message may display. (If so, click [OK] to dismiss the message.)
